Mumbai sucks...that's what a friend tells me...and why!

There is something about the Delhi versus Mumbai rivalry, something special, that words can just not describe. Closer home, it is very similar to the TSEC versus DJ Sanghavi one, aah, but I will let this analogy go. People who are from these two colleges, would know what I am talking about. Let me put it like this, if a blind test was conducted, on a person, without informing him of the city names, he would come close to replying, "These seem to be almost two different countries..." The criticism that some times flows both way, is almost akin to a one way, one street road seeing heavy traffic from both ends.

Today, was another such case in point, when I met a friend's friend.

Needless to say, she was from Delhi, and on a first long stint in Mumbai. Has been already here for around a month. And very very opinionated. I joined in the fun. As a mere spectator.

Not for me to get very defensive about this city.

"I dislike this place, just cannot associate with my room mates."

So, Mumbai = Room mates. Ok, so if the room mates were from Bangalore or Guwahati or Bhopal, you would dislike those cities as well?

It does not end here.

I ask her, "Where in Mumbai are your room mates from?"

"Where did I say that the roomies were from Mumbai, they are from Amravati."

Alrite. My mistake. Earlier I thought it was Mumbai = roomies, now I need to tweak the equation a little.

Mumbai = Amravati. This is Amravati

I have a smile within. Externally, I profess ignorance, "But Amravati is miles away from Mumbai?"

"So? The people in both the regions speak the same language."

The lady has a point. She likes Delhi over Mumbai, because, she stays in Mumbai with room mates, who are from Amravati, that consists of people who speak the same language as the people in Mumbai.

I agreed. She had a very valid issue there, to prefer Delhi over Mumbai.

We move on.

"So, what else?" I probe further.

"I don't like the boys of Mumbai. They are too irresponsible."

Man, I thought. I also thought, "Bandi may dum hai." Sitting with a hard core Mumbai guy, she actually said that. I love her. Love at first sights probably. Like women who stand for themselves and exhibit so much conviction. Just love her. Bye bye Peeya.

"Why do you think they are irresponsible?"

"That is the feeling I get when I talk to the two guys from my batch."

"Two? Why only two?"

"Because I don't talk to others"

"And why is that?"

"Miss Delhi too much"

I still love you Peeya, please take me back, I say please.

Third lesson of the day. Two guys = Mumbai as a whole. Surely hasn't heard of an optimum sample size. Not her fault, it is me who's in the process of getting an MBA done.

No but wait, it also means, that the guys of Mumbai are irresponsible, because the lady gets a feeling that two guys of her batch, are probably irresponsible in the one month of knowing them.
Do I dare to ask her where the guys are from, Mumbai or Latur?

I decide against it.

I can almost guess what her answer would be.

"And what about Delhi. What is good about it? As in, I know it is good, but what are your favourites?"

"The guys are so responsible"

I had almost forgotten. Next, I ask.

"The people just do not bother."

I feel tempted to put in a spanner in this statement. Unlike in Delhi, where the only thing people do is to bother.

Bother You.

Behind your back.

As is my wont, I don't. Nice rhyme there.

Another chapter in the Mumbai-Delhi war.

Just hope she does not read this one.

I would prefer Delhi any given day, over mumbai.I just cant afford to be packed like pigs in the local train of Mumbai. As the roadwasyprovide equally pathatic traffic..so that option is also out of place. And even if one is able to commute easilyto his workplace..how does one afford to live in Mumbai. You pay your fortunes to live in a two room flat.Mumbai is only for two class of peopls....the kings or the pauper!

This one is for Santosh:

Mumbai is not just about hanging out of the jam packed local trains, mumbai is all about living, its a city which has a place for everyone, still 50 paisa is accepted by the shopkeepers, its a city for the masses, You live here the way you want to live,. no show offs...unlike Delhi. Everyone works hard here from the bollywood kings to the Vada Pao vendor, everyone is a hero here, life starts before 6 in the morning and there is nothing like night here... heard that song: "Raat ko 12 baje din nikalta hai" I don't know where you are from but if you live in Mumbai you will learn to live, its a city of dreams, even if the price of the real estate is high, this place makes you dream for that and most of them realize the dream. You need to live in Mumbai to understand its worth, I can bet on this that you will fall in love with the city once u start living here.

mumbai might be the city of dreams-but well one lives and walks in reality!
and reality is not as beautiful as dreams- which comes to the same thing-mumbai and delhi are not comparable in terms of good or bad but the kinds of conveyance the yuse to move decided whether they like it or not. I dont personnally. Its a an individual view and other can differ obviously excluding all those who say Jai maharshtra

I was born, raised and have lived in New Delhi for more than 22 yrs. One thing about Delhi, I can tell u is that...the place, area, architecture, city planning, transport and commute systems are by far...the best in the nation. Just what puts you off is the attitude of the people. Its the "show-off" mentality people have in their minds. Mainly because of the flooding of the illiterate UP n Haryana "gavaars" also, not to ignore the "dikhawa punjaabis"....Apart from these factors...the climatic conditions are extreme..very hot n very cold...n also this city is unsafe for women......

Mumbai is a very cool place...the celebrity land...People who settle here are very committed n dedicated to work, life and the fellow citizen. This sort of unity is very rare in pple of Delhi. They are very reluctant to unite. Its this competitive attitude amongst themselves ...just to prove one superior to the other....Mumbai's crowd is d happening plus point...regardless of the rush, jammed streets and local trains etc which get outshadowed...Considering the living cost, a decent middle class man may find it real hard to adjust initially...but hard work does'nt go waste...pple do n "have" succeeded in their missions...

Finally...reardless of the place you choose..its eventually how good of a person you are and how good of a social circle u hav that matters most. Living conditions and facilities are more or less equivalent in the top two metro cities of India.
